Mountaintops of the Giants Location in Elden Ring
Similar to the Church of Inhibition which opened avenues for you to traverse the vast land, the Mountaintops of the Giants in Elden Ring is an unlockable location filled with its own mysteries, bosses, and quests. The in-game lore describes that this was once the land where Giants used to exist until they got wiped out by a catastrophic event. For us Tarnished players, however, Mountaintops of the Giants is the final region and essentially a fun playground that we can gain access to in Elden Ring.
If you look at the map, the location in question will be found on the north end of the game world. It’s riddled with snow for the most part and comprises two different map fragments to collect: Mountaintops of the Giants, East, and Mountaintops of the Giants, West. Speaking of which, map fragments in the title are essential for effective exploration.
There are plenty of optional bosses to encounter in Mountaintops of the Giants, such as Borealis the Freezing Frog, Ancient Hero of Zamor, and Erdtree Avatar. In addition, there is a total of 8 Sites of Lost Grace in the section that you can activate and navigate across effortlessly or with a little effort, perhaps.
As for the actual finding it part, getting to Mountaintops of the Giants in Elden Ring isn’t too difficult. All you need is a specific key item that a particular boss drops after being felled, and you’re good to go. We will walk you through the important details and what you need to do in the following section, so let’s jump right into it.

Reaching Mountaintops of the Giants
At its very core, accessing the Mountaintops of the Giants region in Elden Ring necessitates that you first obtain an item called Rold Medallion. The game, on three different occasions, requires medallions to advance to the next stage with one of them being a secret, optional region. The same stratagem can be observed with the Dectus Medallion that allows entry into the Altus Plateau.
These medallions make it possible to activate certain areas in Elden Ring. As for the Rold Medallion, it will allow the Grand Lift of Rold to work in full flight. Once done, you’ll be able to step foot into Mountaintops of the Giants in the game. Stay alert and keep a good eye out for impending dangers here.
Now, getting the Rold Medallion and using it in that particular place is the tricky part, but fairly easy nonetheless. Lucky for you, we are going to cover all the nitty-gritty that you need to be aware of for the entirety of this operation, starting with the location of the Rold Medallion. Without any further ado then, let’s dive right into this three-part process below.
Boss Encounter With Morgott, the Omen King
Like Radahn, Morgott, the Omen King, is an S-Tier demigod boss in our Elden Ring Boss tier list that has to be felled to progress the mainline story of Elden Ring. He deems himself the “Last of All Kings” and is shown to defeat multiple figures of substantial status in the game’s lore. To get to the Mountaintops of the Giants region and travel to the final part of the Lands Between, you need to lay Morgott to rest.
You will find this great enemy in the Leyndell, Royal Capital area. This is known as the “sprawling capital city” and the “administrative center of Altus Plateau.” Of course, you’ll find this whole section teeming with enemies of various forms, a bevy of farming runes, items, weapons, and bosses, and getting to this place warrants that you either follow Ranni the Witch’s quests or collect a couple of Great Runes. While you’re at, also read our Elden Ring item tier list and weapons tier list.
After reaching Leyndell, Royal Capital, you’ll also run into Godfrey, the First Elden Lord. This is yet another legendary boss that you have to defeat in order to go further in Elden Ring’s campaign. When you arrive at the Avenue Balcony Site of Lost Grace, go downstairs and out the main doorway. There’s going to be an archer right in front of you taking his aim. Watch out for his shots while going straight. Take care of him if you need to, or simply go past him and up an elevated structure prominent in the area.
It looks like a giant white-colored root that you will have to traverse and climb up. Keep going up and jump wherever necessary until you get to the top-most area and find a platform to drop down to beneath. Jump down to find yourself in a ruined hallway. Keep going straight until you find a ladder. Climb the ladder and keep moving ahead. You will find recurrent stairs, so follow the main track while avoiding the present enemies in the area.
Once you get outside the hallway, go straight and take a right to find another huge tree branch extending throughout the perimeter. As soon as you step onto the root, follow the pathway on the left and keep following it until you reach a balcony. This is where you’ll easily observe the terrorizing mist-laden opening that leads you to boss fights in Elden Ring. However, this isn’t where you’ll meet Morgott, the Omen King.
Instead, you will have to take on the aforementioned Godfrey, the First Elden Lord now. The following screenshot of the game’s map depicts the exact location of where this boss can be found. Navigating to this place can be fairly tricky, but if you take some time out to explore, you’ll easily be able to cover most of the ground.

Now, the good news is that Morgott, the Omen King, is not too far from here on out. You need to head on straight from the area where you fight Godfrey and take a right toward the balcony. There’s also going to be a Site of Lost Grace here. Upon approaching said balcony, go left and spot the branch going upside. Get on the branch and make your way to the higher level of the building.
Keep following the pathway, and you should soon be heading south after crossing the bridge. There’s also going to be another Site of Lost Grace here called Queen’s Bedchamber. At the very end of the area, you’ll find a large flight of stairs going up and leading toward the boss-laden mist. Now, this is the location of Morgott, the Omen King. The hard part now is slaying the great enemy.

We’ve now arrived at the area of one of the toughest boss fights in Elden Ring. Make sure that you’ve activated the Queen’s Bedchamber Site of Lost Grace to save a convenient checkpoint for the fight. As for the battle itself, you definitely need to bring your A-game to this fight since Margott simply takes no prisoners. He goes harder than Margit, the Fell Omen, who is one of the first bosses players face in the game.
For Margott though, it’s advisable not to commit to seemingly apparent openings and wait out his flurry of attacks. Dodging and rolling is going to be your best bet for this great foe, but it’s not all defense that you’re going to want to do with Margott. Being offensive is as equal as staying on the defense, so do check out these Best Elden Ring Builds for the perfect blend of both worlds.
Let’s get onto the next part of the process now.
Obtaining the Rold Medallion
After downing Margott, the Omen King, you will need to have a conversation with Melina, our personal guide in Elden Ring. She’s with us since the beginning and serves to aid our Tarnished character for becoming an Elden Lord. Melina will offer the player the Rold Medallion right after the aforementioned boss fight, setting you up to head toward the Grand Lift of Rold.
Our cryptic overseer is present at Sites of Grace in Elden Ring and will particularly give you the key item needed to get to the Mountaintops of the Giants after you try getting into the Erdtree. Obviously, you won’t be able to do that just yet, so upon visiting her after this development, she’ll hand you the Rold Medallion. Your job now is to gallop to the Grand Lift of Rold.
Activating the Grand Lift of Rold
It’s a commonplace for players to get stuck after receiving the Rold Medallion with no clue where to go next. Apparently, the vast world of Elden Ring comes with no map markers, which thereby encourages player exploration and making discoveries yourself. However, some parts may just get too hard to grasp on your own, so let’s look at the quickest way you can get to the Grand Lift of Rold.
The best way to get started in this case is to begin from the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace which is situated in Leyndell, Royal Capital. You can’t miss it if you’ve already beat Morgott, the Omen King. Simply look it up on your map and fast travel to it from a nearby Site of Grace.

From this point, you need to head left up the stairs and into a doorway that will lead you to a two-way street. Take a left here again and keep heading straight until you find a sizable halfway opened brace door. You’ll notice snow on the ground as soon as you advance past the door, followed up with a gargoyle-type enemy awaiting your presence. Both of these elements are a hint of what’s coming next.
One, you’re going to come face-to-face with a boss battle, and two, you’re nearing the Mountaintops of the Giants region now. For now, go straight toward and up the stairs and keep going until you see a doorway on the left. Do note that this section will comprise its fair share of enemies. Going past that doorway on the left will lead you to a lift. Enter the room, activate the lift, and make your way up.

After you reach the surface, get out of the room and head straight. Be sure to pick one of the best Talismans called, the Flamedrake Talisman, on the left side as you near the flight of stairs. Proceeding a little further will illustrate on the screen that you’ve now arrived at the Capital Outskirts area. Keep making your way to what should now be east, according to the in-game compass.
Going far enough will lead you to another lift, but this time, you’ll be going down instead of up. Simply stand on the protruded platform to activate the operation and begin the descent. As soon as you reach the bottom and make your way out of the room, a strip will appear on the screen mentioning Forbidden Lands, affirming that you’re now inside a whole different region.
It’s a good idea to light up the nearby Site of Lost Grace to save a checkpoint. You can now summon Torrent Horse, your reliable Spirit Steed, to take you east. This is assuming that you already know how to summon the horse in Elden Ring.
The idea here is to head in the northeast direction past the convoluted forests and the bevy of enemies. It’s a good 2-3 minutes ride from the Forbidden Lands Site of Grace to the Grand Lift of Rold. As soon as you approach the area in question, you’ll first notice two giant pillars leaning in on each other, but not fully. Go a little nearer, and a giant creature will make its entrance, otherwise known as the Black Blade Kindred.
This is an optional boss that you may as well ignore right from the get-go. He does drop some of the best weapons and about 60,000 Runes, so do try taking him on. However, we recommend doing that only after you’ve activated the Great Lift of Rold Site of Grace, which is right inside the main area entrance guarded by the gargoyle.
Now, make your way to the heart of the Great Lift of Rold and observe a prompt appearing on the screen. Press the “Event Action” button to hoist the Rold Medallion and trigger the two statues to kick into motion.

As soon as you do that, a cutscene will appear, making the Grand Lift of Rold serve its purpose and take you to an entirely new region in the Lands Between. After the cutscene ends and you’re back in control of your character, head straight on. Call your horse to brave the roads ahead as you’re greeted with the Mountaintops of the Giants title strip.

For reference purposes, the following is where the Mountaintops of the Giants region appear to be located. You can see that it’s quite far out in the east direction.

That’s about it for how to get to Mountaintops of the Giants area in Elden Ring. The process has definitely been lengthy, given the caliber of the game, but it’s also decently enjoyable at the same time. Now, let’s delve into a major aspect of approaching any new region in the game, which is obtaining its map fragments.
Mountaintops of the Giants Map Fragments Locations
There are two different map fragments for the Mountaintops of the Giants area in Elden Ring. One covers the east area, while the other is focused on the western part of this whole section. Finding the Mountaintops of the Giants, East map fragment is nothing but painless. You can pick it up on the right side of the main road from where you first set out after arriving in the area.
Keep to the right of the trackway, and you’ll soon notice the typical map-containing monument, housing the map fragment in question at its base. This covers the first and probably the easiest piece of map for this distinct region. As for the Mountaintops of the Giants, West map fragment, you will need to continue going straight. Traveling for enough period of time will lead you to discover the Freezing Lake Site of Grace.
From there, head southeast to the road turning inward from the latter and follow it until you arrive at the Giants’ Gravepost Site of Lost Grace. The western piece of the map for the Mountaintops of the Giants region will be sitting in close proximity here. Collect it to explore the section freely now.
Takeaway
Elden Ring has blown people away with the level of depth it has introduced in its gameplay. This is FromSoftware‘s very first foray into the open-world gaming genre, and it’s safe to say that they’ve done an excellent job already. That is to say, it hasn’t been three weeks since the title’s release, and it’s already the best-selling game in the United States in 2022. If that doesn’t make you want to indulge more and more in the title, we don’t know what will.
Elden Ring looks well on course to grab the Game of the Year 2022 award, given what it brings to the table for action RPG fans. The latest entry in the Soulsborne franchise takes no prisoners in terms of being overly difficult, especially for new players. Although it’s measuring up to be the hardest-to-beat title in the whole series, don’t let that fool you into thinking Elden Ring is no fun.
Where there’s struggling in besting a particular boss, the feeling of accomplishment is far greater, thereby giving true meaning to the concept of pleasure in pain. The game’s hybrid combat, large, open-world with tons of details, and a dark, twisted storyline make it no less than an excellent affair to get yourself into. However, we highly encourage players to maximize their experience with our Elden Ring best settings and performance guide. In addition, it might do you one better to find out the top 15 Ashes of War in the game and revamp your playstyle.
In this guide, the Mountaintops of the Giants region in Elden Ring have been thoroughly covered. By the time you’re done reading this guide, you’ll be all caught up on finding the Rold Medallion, engaging with Morgott the Omen King, and operating the Grand Lift of Rold.
